Jack Lalanne Power Juicer Consumer Report &
Juicing Techniques...

I do find the Jack Lalanne Power Juicer to be a good machine... and there is little I can find fault with his machine... however, where a consumer may be a little disappointed with his machine is in the "reality" of Juicing vs. the "TV version" of Juicing...

I found that Juicing takes a little more time to do in "reality" than it takes on "TV".

For example, I like to carefully wash all my fruits first... then I like to prepare the fruits carefully, removing any stems, bruised fruit, Calyx's, and some peels... also I like to cut my fruit into manageable sized pieces... (I'll go into more detail below).

Another thing that takes more time in "reality" than it takes on "TV" is the time to clean the machine after making your juice... on "TV" it would seem to only take approx. only a couple minutes to clean-up after making juice... however, I find that I rarely can clean-up properly in less than 10 - 15 minutes... (I'll go into more detail below).

Here, I will go into a step-by-step "reality" of Juicing with a Jack Lalanne Power Juicer...

Buying & Organizing the Fruit...
I only buy enough fruit to last for 3 days supply of juice. I organize the fruit into daily portions before putting them into the Fridge. Store your fruit in the fridge with each day's supply separated for easy/quick access.

Cleaning & Preparing the Fruit...

For each batch of juice I make, I spend approximately 10 - 15 minutes cleaning and preparing the fruit... unlike the TV commercials which seem to indicate that you can do this in a couple of minutes. While it's possible you could clean/prep. your fruit in a couple of minutes... you probably wouldn't be getting as clean/quality of juice as you probably would want.

Cleaning & Preparing Carrots...
Wash your carrots good. I cut off the stem area. I also cut-off the tip area.

Cleaning & Preparing Tomatoes...
After washing the tomato(s)... I usually cut them in half, and on really large tomatoes, I cut them into quarters... as I find the intake chute on the Juicer isn't very wide... and larger pieces of fruit should to be cut in half (or quarters) so they don't get jammed in the intake chute.

Cleaning & Preparing Pears...
After washing the Pear, I cut-off it's stem area. I cut Pears into quarters... leave the seeds in. I also cut-off the end opposite the stem (the Calyx)...

Cleaning & Preparing Apples...
Wash your Apples thoroughly. Cut your Apples into quarters... leave the seeds in. I cut-off what's left of the stem, as well as the end opposite the stem (the Calyx).

Cleaning & Preparing Oranges...
I cut Oranges into quarters. Cutting Oranges into quarters makes them easier to peel. Removing the peel from the Orange makes the juice a little sweeter.

Cleaning & Preparing Mellon's (Honey Dew)...
Because of the large size of the Honey Dew Mellon's, I cut them into 1/8th's. I also carefully cut-off their outer skin/peel. Once their harder outer skin is cut-off, it helps them go through the Juicing machine easier.

Cleaning & Preparing Grapefruit...
I cut Grapefruit's into quarter sections. Cutting the Grapefruit's into quarter sections makes them easier to peel. Removing the peel makes the Grapefruit juice less bitter.

Cleaning & Preparing Lemon...
I also cut the Lemon's into quarter sections. Cutting the Lemon's into quarter sections makes them easier to peel. Removing the peel makes the Lemon juice less bitter.

Cleaning & Preparing Mango's...
Mango's can be hard to peel... start by making 2 separate cuts all the way around the Mango... so it's sliced into quarter sections. At the bottom of the Mango, where the cuts intersect each other, peel back one of the corners. If the Mango is sufficiently ripe, each quarter section of the peel should peel-back nicely. Once the Mango is peeled, cut-off the fruit sections from around the main seed.

Getting the Fruit Ready for the Juicer...
Once you finished cleaning and cutting all the fruit.. gather all the pieces into a bowl or plate. Preparing all the fruit to go through the Juicer at one time makes the process easier. Notice the amount of peel and left over ends, stems, and Calyx's.

Juicing
Assembly and operation of the Juicer is quite simple and easy. With all the fruit pre-cut and placed into a bowl, you streamline the juicing process. It doesn't take long for the Juicer to fill a glass.

Juicing
The Juicer will quickly fill a glass... so you want to be ready for the overflow. Using a funnel and a washed-out milk jug... you can catch all the overflow and store your daily juice production. Old milk jugs are great for storing juice... and are easy to shake to mix the juice.

Cleaning the Machine After Use...
The Juicer does make a bit of a mess underneath the lid/top, and also in the pulp catcher. First thing to do when cleaning the machine is to remove the lid/cover. Scoop the pulp from underneath the lid/cover... you can place it into a bucket or plastic bag. Dump the pulp from the pulp catcher in a bucket or plastic bag.

Cleaning the Machine After Use Cont. ...
With the Blade removed, put any pulp on it into the bucket or plastic bag. After removing the blade, you can remove the filter/screen. After removing the screen, you can empty what's left in the upper-base. With the machine disassembled, place everything (except the main base) in the sink where you can rinse off all the fruit pulp from each component.

CONCLUSION;

After using the Jack Lalanne Power Juicer for several months on a daily basis, my independent report/conclusion on the Jack Lalanne Power Juicer is;

(1.) Overall, I like the machine... it does a fairly good overall job.

(2.) I was a little disappointed with 2 things;

  • (A) I found the food preparation takes longer than what I thought it would after forming an opinion from watching the TV commercials., and
  • (B) I found that it took longer to clean the machine thoroughly than what I thought it would after forming an opinion from watching the TV commercials.

(3.) After several months of daily use, the cutting blade seems to be getting a little duller... so pretty soon, I'd like to replace it with a new blade.
